Job fair for PWDs, trans persons draws over 400 applications

Hyderabad: Over 40 companies from different sectors came forward on Wednesday to participate in a first-of-its-kind job fair for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) — individuals with speech and hearing impairments, young women from marginalised communities, and members of the transgender community in the city. The objective: to offer employment opportunities to more than 400 job seekers from these sections of society in fields like IT, retail, real estate, and hospitality.

The event was organised by the Mindspace Business Parks REIT at its Madhapur campus, in collaboration with Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN) and inHarmony, a diversity and inclusion consultancy.

“There are roles available in customer support, sales, and more for individuals who have completed their intermediate education. Additionally, there are positions for both graduates and postgraduates, spanning fields from finance to IT. Our goal is to foster an inclusive workplace by offering employment opportunities to marginalised communities,” stated Anupama Eshwaran, founder of inHarmony.
Applicants shared how the opportunity will help them live life on their own terms.

“I used to think that my inability to hear would prevent me from ever working,” said S Sri Sindhu, adding, “Applying for the accountant’s role has been a huge step for me, and it’s proven that my potential isn’t limited by my disability.”

Another 24-year-old applicant from a marginalised community shared how she is looking forward to building her career. “I have applied for the role of customer support. I always wanted to work but I was married off at a very young age. With this opportunity, I want to make my own life, where I am not dependent on anyone. I have submitted my CV. They said they will get back to me soon,” she said.
Eshwaran mentioned that 400 job seekers have submitted their resumes, with some having already completed interviews.

“Based on Wednesday’s screening, the company will inform applicants if they have secured a job,” she added.
